Averee has wanted to be a journalist ever since the moment she interviewed her Congressman, Mike Levin, for her high school newspaper. She moved from San Diego, CA, to New York City to attend Marymount Manhattan College, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Digital Journalism and Politics & Human Rights. Recently, Averee graduated with her Master of Science in Journalism from Columbia Journalism School.
Relevant skills include audio reporting, profile writing, ideas and feature writing, as well as investigative techniques. Averee received honors for her Master's Project, a 6,000 word reported story on the Minuteman Missiles built on the properties of South Dakota ranchers and farmers during the Cold War, and how that government nuclear intervention affected people's lives economically and politically. She became a published author of an anthology called Exhumed: Experiments in Memory alongside her 16 other classmates while in graduate school.
Currently, Averee is a freelance Copy Editor for The Everygirl, a freelance Writer for Travel Media Group, and has her words in Women's Health and The List, as a freelancer. She's interesting in writing about pop culture, lifestyle, wellness and beauty, and social media/trends.
Previously, Averee was an editorial intern at Her Campus, where she wrote, edited, and pitched stories on a weekly basis aimed at search and social with a focus on Gen Z pop culture, lifestyle, health, style and beauty. A notable story from her time there was a reported feature on college students facing eco-anxiety and how colleges planned on addressing climate change in the aftermath of Hurricane Ida in 2021. Averee also was the Digital Managing Editor of her undergrad's student-led newspaper, The Monitor, and President of her college's chapter of Her Campus where she managed websites, editing articles, and wrote stories.
Outside of pounding the pavement and watching out for social media trends, Averee can be found reading books, walking around the city or drinking iced oat milk lattes.
